Yamato Holdings Corporation (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Yutaka Nagao), through the “KURONEKO Innovation Fund”, has invested in GITAI Japan Inc. (Headquarters: Ota-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Sho Nakanose; hereinafter “GITAI”), a developer of general-purpose work robots for use in outer space.
GITAI is a Japanese start-up company that develops autonomous robotic arms and rovers for lunar rovers to replace astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) in the accelerating space program. In 2021, the company successfully used its autonomous robotic arm to assemble space panels on board the International Space Station (ISS). The company plans to verify the technology for work outside the ISS by the end of 2023, with the aim of commercializing the technology in space.
The decision to invest in GITAI was based on the company’s advanced technological capabilities in the new space development market. By incorporating GITAI into the portfolio of the KURONEKO Innovation Fund, we will deepen our knowledge of cutting-edge technologies for automating and streamlining difficult tasks, and will work to provide new value.
